Penuntut Imperial College penerima pertama Anugerah Lonza

Aimi Samihah bte Azuhan, sewaktu zaman persekolahannya lagi di Sek Men Desa Tun Hussein Onn, Kolumpo. Telah menunjukkan rekod yang amat cemerlang dari segi pembelajaran di dalam kelas dan juga aktiviti di luar kelas. Disayangi semua guru, makcik kantin, akak kedai buku , kerani, pelajar jr dan juga pak guard. Pagi pagi bapak dia akan hantar naik mercedes warna hitam. Dengan beg sekolah yang overload ( semua buku teks dan latihan dia bawak) sampai di kiri kanan tangan pegang buku. Dia akan melangkah penuh semangat ke sekolah. Setiap kali cikgu suruh bawak barang macam pinggan mangkuk ke, mesti dia akan bawak pinggan mangkuk mak die yang dalam almari, bukan sebab die belagak sebab kaya, tapi sebab dia akan cuba buat yang terbaik untuk setiap aktiviti yang disertainya. Begitu jugak kalo kitaorang dapat kerja grouping, mesti nak satu group ngan die, hehehe dia akan buat semua, dah conform leh dapat A. Sebagai bekas rakan sekolah dia, aku tumpang bangga dengan kejayaan dia (aku tak dibayar untuk post ni yer). Pasni aku nak mintak no telepon bapak die la, nak tau aper formula leh dapat anak sebijak ni...Chow...

AIMI Samihah (kiri) bersama penasihat pelajar tajaan Petronas, Rashidah Ali di Dewan Royal Albert London, Rabu lalu.

LONDON: Pelajar tajaan Petronas, Aimi Samihah Azuhan, 24, mencatat sejarah apabila bukan saja menerima Ijazah Sarjana Muda Kejuruteraan Kimia kelas pertama, malah muncul penerima pertama Anugerah Lonza dari Imperial College di sini.

Aimi Samihah, menerima Anugerah Lonza, iaitu daripada syarikat farmasi terkenal dunia yang berpangkalan di Switzerland, berikutan prestasi cemerlang dalam projek tahun akhir yang diketuainya mengenai ibuprofen, pada majlis konvokesyen institusi pengajian tinggi terkemuka itu di Dewan Royal Albert di sini, Rabu lalu.

Ketika tahun kedua pengajian selama empat tahun di sini, Aimi Samihah menerima Hadiah British Petroleum (BP) kerana keputusan cemerlang dalam kejuruteraan kimia.

"Aimi Samihah menunjukkan prestasi mengagumkan dan kami sangat bangga apabila beliau menjadi penerima pertama anugerah ini," kata Ketua Jabatan Kejuruteraan Kimia Imperial College, Profesor Andrew Livingston.

Detik bersejarah Aimi Samihah menerima ijazah kelas pertama dan anugerah itu turut disaksikan anggota keluarganya dari Malaysia, iaaitu, ibu bapanya, Azuhan Mohamed, 50, dan Salmiah Salleh, 46, serta adik lelakinya Adilin Syahmi, 14. Turut hadir datuk dan neneknya, Salleh Ali, 72, dan Mariam Yusof, 69.

Ketika ditemui, Aimi Samihah berbangga sebagai anak Melayu dan mendapat tajaan Petronas, menerima ijazah kelas pertama dan menerima anugerah berprestij itu.

"Saya sangat terhutang budi kepada ibu saya yang sentiasa menjadi pendorong, manakala ayah adalah sumber ilham kerana dia juga seorang jurutera," katanya.

Azuhan pula berkata, anaknya mempunyai sikap tidak akan berpuas hati selagi tidak mendapat A atau markah 100 peratus yang menyebabkannya bekerja keras untuk mencapai keputusan terbaik dalam pengajian.

"Ketika saya mengikuti pengajian peringkat Ijazah Doktor Falsafah (PhD) di Birmingham, Aimi Samihah bersekolah di sana dan pernah mendapat anugerah saintis muda," katanya,

Beliau juga memuji Petronas kerana memberi sokongan dan bimbingan kepada pemegang biasiswa yang belajar di sini.

"Sebagai bapa, saya tidak bimbang melepaskan anak saya belajar di luar negara. Tempat tinggal selesa dan pembiayaan Petronas membolehkan pelajar menumpu perhatian terhadap pengajian," katanya.
